Benvenuto!
The indexes on this site were created from records microfilmed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church has numerous holdings, many of which are indexed by volunteers and are searchable for free at FamilySearch.org. However, they also have a vast number of records that are images only--browsable, but not searchable.
As I began tracing my own roots I found the Civil Registration Records for Ivrea, Torino, Italy to be an invaluable resource. However, it quickly became very daunting to hunt page by page through the collection of more than 725,000 images. Even with navigation "waypoints" helping me jump to specific types of records in a given year and town, I quickly became frustrated. Between waiting for images to load and rereading the same records repeatedly to find different people, I decided something had to be done.
The something I did was use simple Excel spreadsheets to create my own indexes for the records. And now I'm sharing with you! Hopefully you'll be able to use these indexes and the original records they reference to speed along your own research. Also, if you find an error or your research leads you to another conclusion that the one presented please leave a comment, send an email or otherwise share. Your feedback will help improve research for everyone!
These indexes differ from traditional indexes in a number of ways. Firstly, name spelling has been standardized to facilitate searching.
Second, most of the indexes have been augmented with data from other sources. For instance, a birth record may not list the grandparents of the child or may not list the full given names of the parents. The information in the index was expanded using marriage and death records to give a more complete picture of who a particular person was related to.
Happy discoveries!
